Q1 2023

History

Wed 29th Mar 2023

Feature updates

1. Steps are a supported single measurement

Organisations can now send Steps into PKB via an HL7 ORU R01 message. Steps is now a supported single measurement and is mapped to the SNOMED code ‘129006008’.

Bugs fixes

1. Measurements

Previously, the history of a measurement was hidden in a patient’s record when the most recent version of the measurement was deleted. We have resolved this issue so that deleting the most recent measurement no longer hides the measurement history.

2. Consultations

We have resolved an issue that meant patients could not start consultations if they had already started the consultation and then clicked ‘Cancel.’ Patients can now start consultations that they have been sent from the ‘Events and messages’ page, even if they have already started them.

Thur 23rd Mar 2023

New features

1. Test results in notifications panel

Patients can now see the values of their latest test results in the notifications panel on their homepage. Clicking the notification takes the patient to more information about the result and previous results for that test.

Feature updates

1. Email notifications - add to team

We will no longer send email notifications to email addresses for patients who are deceased if they are added to a team.

Bugs fixes

1. HL7 - diagnoses and medications updates

We have fixed an issue which was preventing medications and diagnoses updates sent via HL7 from being processed where the the same medication or diagnosis code was sent multiple times in the HL7 message and the user who originally accessed the datapoint was from a different organisation to the user who tried to access the updated datapoint. This issue also prevented carers from accessing affected records.

Feature updates

1. GP data from EMIS Extract Service

We have processed all historical data for GP practices sending data to PKB via the EMIS Extract Service. This means that patients, and their clinical teams, can see allergies, diagnoses, medications and Physical Health Check measurements and tests in their records. Processing is continuing now on a daily basis. More information on the data we receive from EMIS and how to view it in PKB can be found in our manual: https://manual.patientsknowbest.com/integrations/emis/data#h.p_vgY8G8jM97Y5

2. FHIR Questionnaire

Questionnaires can now be sent to one or many patients using their NHS number, an example of this is shown below:

{ "name":"target", "valueReference":{ "identifier":{ "system":"https://fhir.nhs.uk/Id/nhs-number", "value":"5193233945" } } }

For more information please see our developer wiki: https://wiki.patientsknowbest.com/space/api/3365012087/Send+questionnaire+request

Thurs 9th Mar 2023

Feature updates

1. Contact Details CSV - registration status

We have added two new columns to the Contact Details CSV: date of birth, registration status. A coordinator can download this CSV from the Institution tab. This change allows teams to get the registration status of their patients without needing PKB to provide this.

Bugs

1. PKB proprietary one time password (OTP) single sign-on (SSO)

We have resolved an issue which meant that diagnoses and medicines could not be saved by professionals logged in via the PKB OTP SSO. Previously, the page would crash when the professional attempted to save the diagnosis or medicine. Now, the diagnosis or medicine is added to the patient’s record and can be viewed by the professional.

Technical improvements

1. FHIR storage

This week's release includes backend changes to our FHIR storage of conditions and appointment data.

Thurs 2nd Mar 2023

Feature updates

1. FHIR Questionnaire

We have added a parameter to our FHIR API to allow organisations to determine if they want an email notification to be sent to a team professional if a patient completes the questionnaire. The parameter can be added the $send-questionnaire-request endpoint as follows:

{ "name":"notificationFlag", "valueCode":"EMAIL_NOTIFICATION_ENABLED" }

Email notifications turned on

{ "name":"notificationFlag", "valueCode":"EMAIL_NOTIFICATION_DISABLED" }

Email notifications turned off

2. Care plans

We can now use the ‘display’ CSS property to edit the appearance of care plans. This will allow PKB to create care plans containing tables, which will help clinical teams present the information in the care plan more flexibly.

3. Single sign-on

Organisations will be able to optionally prevent professionals from switching between patient records when they are logged in via single sign-on (SSO). When a professional launches a patient’s record using a redirection URL that contains ‘lockPatient = True', they will be prevented from leaving that patient’s record for the duration of the session, with links to other areas of PKB removed from view.

Wed 22nd Feb 2023

Feature updates

1. Email notifications - plans

We have updated the wording of email notification sent to patients when a professional adds or updates a plan. The email now uses 'plans” rather than “care plans” to be consistent with our UI.

Bugs

1. Professionals - remind to register

We have resolved an issue which prevented professionals from having the option to remind a patient to register. This only occurred when a patient’s record was initially added with no email and then an email was added via HL7 afterwards.

Thurs 16th Feb 2023

Bugs

1. Medicines

We have fixed a bug which occurred when a user discussed a medication. Prior to the fix, if a user selected a medication to discuss, all the medications were pre-populated in the message body rather than just the medication(s) selected for discussion.

2. Professionals

We have fixed a bug which allowed team professionals to invite other team professionals as individual professionals for patients in their team. Now, the inviting team professional is shown an error message stating that the second team professional already has access to the patient’s record.

Thurs 9th Feb 2023

Feature updates

1. HL7 MDM-T02 messages

OBX-5 (Observation Value) is now mandatory in HL7 MDM-T02 messages. This will ensure that empty documents are not sent into patient records, which can cause errors to be shown within PKB for patients. For more information click here.

2. FHIR Questionnaire

Questionnaires can now be sent via our FHIR Questionnaire API to patients:

  • who have been invited but have not yet registered

  • who have sharing disabled on their record

  • who have been discharged from a team by a professional

  • who were once a registered patient but have had their account deregistered

Bugs

1. Browser error message

We have resolved an issue which resulted in the user seeing an error message stating that they were using an unsupported browser when they were not. This occurred when the user was referred to the PKB login screen from certain URLs. The issue is now resolved and users will no longer see this incorrect error message when using a supported browser.

2. HL7 Review screen

We have resolved an issue with the 'HL7 Review' screen, which meant organisation administrators could not skip to the most recent page of quarantined HL7 messages. Previously, they were shown an error message stating that no HL7 messages were found. They are now taken to the page containing the most recent quarantined HL7 messages.

3. Messaging fixes for non-contactable professionals.

We have resolved a number of issues affecting professionals who have set their contact preferences to non-contactable by messaging.

  • We have reinstated the remind and the reply buttons from the professional’s view of the patient’s ‘Events & Messages’ inbox.

  • We have fixed a bug which caused a page crash when a professional who was set up as non-contactable, tried to reply to a consultation.

  • Non-contactable professionals no longer see an error screen when they try to hand-over a consultation.

Technical improvements

1. Appointment

We have enriched the Appointment resources returned via the event service interface with additional display text for participants and source actors.

Fri 3rd Feb 2023

Feature updates

1. Carer details

Professionals and carers will no longer see the ‘Relevant contacts' table on the patient summary page. We have also removed the carer's date of birth from the 'Friends/Family' page of the 'Sharing’ section of a patient's record, which will now display the name of any carers only.

2. HL7 record matching by email address

An email address can now be used as an identifier in an HL7 message to target a patient’s PKB record. The email address must be provided in the PID-2 or PID-3 fields with an Assigning Authority and Type Code both set to “EMAIL”. Email addresses provided as contact information in the PID-13 or PID-14 fields will not be used as identifiers, and email identifiers provided in the PID-2 or PID-3 fields will not be saved as contact information. Email address identifiers will only match a record if the email address is not a secondary, unconfirmed email address on the target PKB record. For more information please read our developer wiki.

Bugs

1. Diagnoses

We have resolved an issue to ensure new lines are shown correctly when additional diagnosis information is saved. Previously, this field was showing a '<br/>' HTML code where the new line separating the text should have been.

Thurs 26th Jan 2023

Bugs

1. Diagnoses

We have resolved an issue which caused the diagnoses page to fail to load when a patient had a group of past medications that were marked as inactive and had no end date set.

Wed 25th Jan 2023

Feature updates

1. FHIR Process message

A national identifier verification status is no longer mandatory when creating patients via the FHIR Process message endpoint. For more information please see https://pkbdev.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/api/pages/3365077610

Wed 18th Jan 2023

Bugs

1. EMIS single sign on (SSO)

We have resolved an issue that prevented the ‘Ask for access’ button from displaying for users when viewing a patient’s Patients Know Best record using the EMIS SSO (https://manual.patientsknowbest.com/integrations/emis/viewer ). Professionals can now see the ‘Ask for access’ button to request access to a patient record.

Fri 13th Jan 2023

New features

1. EMIS Patient Data Extract Service - Tests

We will now add lab tests from GP practices using the EMIS Web system to patient records. These lab tests are extracted from EMIS Web in the EMIS Patient Data Extract Service.

The lab tests will appear for patients gradually as we process the backlog of historical data. We are not sending email notifications to patients while we process the historical data so that patients do not receive multiple emails about updates to their records.

Initially, lab tests included in the NHS Health Check will be added to records. We will expand the list of lab tests being added in future releases. For more information, please read our manual.

Thurs 12th Jan 2023

New features

1. FHIR send-questionnaire-request

An optional “additionalIdentifier” parameter can be included in the FHIR send-questionnaire-request operation. The parameter must include a system and value, an example of this is provided below:

Bugs

1. HL7 MDM T02 document messages

The document completion status, TXA-17.1, within HL7 MDM T02 document messages is now mandatory when the message contains a TXA segment. For more information please see MDM T02: Send a document.

2. Bulk create patient records

Team coordinators can now add carers for the patients they are creating using the ‘Add many patients’ feature. We have resolved an issue which was causing the carer invitations to silently fail.

Searching for the Patients Know Best login page using a search engine will now return our generic login page rather than regional login pages.

4. Document reporting in NHS App

We have resolved an issue that prevented the document reporting button from displaying for users accessing PKB from the NHS App. The document reporting feature is available in the ‘Events & messages’ section of PKB and applies to PDF documents that are sent to patients via HL7 integration. If a patient cannot open the document from any of their devices, they can report an error with the document by clicking on this button.

Wed 4th Jan 2023
