Andalucia

History

ClicSalud+ functions as a virtual health management platform for residents with public health coverage in Andalusia, offering access to personal health information and the ability to manage appointments online. The platform ensures secure transmission of data and user authentication through advanced technologies.

Launched in 2002 under the name InterSAS, ClicSalud+ was created as a patient portal, to improve user access to health information in the Andalusian Public Health System. It integrates with DIRAYA, the regional Electronic Health Record system, which consolidates all necessary patient information—including administrative details, appointments, and clinical records—into a unified profile, accessible at any point of care, whether in an emergency room or a hospital setting.

The integration of ClicSalud+ with these systems guarantees that the data provided is current and that any user updates are promptly reflected across all associated information systems.

Access to these services requires user authentication. Some services can be accessed by providing personal details, while others, due to their sensitive nature, necessitate the use of a digital certificate.

Features

ClicSalud+ presently provides a range of features, including patients being able to log in to access their health records, manage their appointments, and request prescriptions. In particular, patients have access to:

A section called ‘Health agenda’, where they can:

  • Request primary care appointments

  • Reschedule and cancel certain types of upcoming appointments, as well as view a list of past ones.

  • Check their surgical waiting list.

A section called ‘Health’, which patients can view their information regarding:

  • conditions, allergies

  • Covid-19 certificates

  • medication and prescriptions

  • clinical reports, such as admissions, hospitalisations, outpatient consultations, discharge reports

  • analytical tests such as blood tests

  • imaging tests, where patients can see the imaging but not the clinician’s written report

  • vaccines that have been registered from the year 2010

  • temporary disability, to check the information on the status of temporary work incapacity.

A section called ‘Formalities’, where they can:

  • request a new health card in case of deterioration, loss, theft

  • request a temporary displacement i.e. in the case of moving to a different Andalusian municipality, patients can choose a primary care center and professional in the municipality in which they are temporarily moving to.

  • choose their GP

Challenges and areas for improvement

While ClicSalud+ offers valuable services, it does have certain limitations:

  • Limited Data Source: The platform exclusively incorporates data from public healthcare providers and General Practitioners (GPs), excluding information from other healthcare sources, such as private healthcare providers.

  • Restricted Data Input: Patients are unable to directly input their own data, relying solely on information provided by healthcare professionals.

  • Lack of Sharing/Carers Mechanism: There is no mechanism for patients to share their health information with caregivers or family members.
